"Windows Vista Updates: Configuring Your Computer to Update the Windows Vista"

There are two ways to install Microsoft Windows Vista updates: manually and automatically. No matter which method that you are using, the updates are to fix or update the bugs of the operating system.

Installing updates manually isn't generally a good idea though; because you have to remember to get the updates yourself, and most people won't remember to do that. The best way is to configure Microsoft Windows to perform the updates automatically.

Anyway, I will show you both methods to perform Windows Vista updates:

To install an update manually in Windows Vista (or XP)

• From the Start button, point to All Programs and click on Windows Update.
• From the Windows updates dialog box displayed, click the Install Updates button and the update will start.

• You'll need to be connected to the Internet, and will be redirected to the Microsoft Update Web site. Just follow the directions on the site.

To configure your computer to obtain Windows Vista updates automatically

• From the Start button, point to All Programs and click on Windows Update.
• From the Windows Update dialog box displayed, click Change Settings in the left-hand menu.

• Choose Install updates automatically (recommended) option. Make sure the time configured for downloading is a time when the computer will be turned on and connected to the Internet.
• Click OK.

To configure your computer to obtain Windows XP Updates automatically

• Click Start, then right-click on My Computer, and select Properties.
• From the System Properties dialog box displayed, click the Automatic Updates tab.

• Select the Automatic (recommended) option so the updates will occur automatically. Make sure the time configured for downloading is a time when the computer will be turned on and connected to the Internet. Note that if the computer is turned off at the specified time, the updates will occur when the computer is on next time.
• Click OK.
